Zatswho® for Seniors with Memory Loss

Research has shown that activities play a large part in preventing the progression of Alzheimer's /dementia. There are many activities that are appropriate for people with Alzheimer’s. No two people experience dementia/Alzheimer’s disease in the same way. As a result, there's no one approach to care giving. Alzheimer's disease can gradually diminish a person's ability to communicate.

We have our own story. When Zatswho® was first created, we didn't know the role the flashcards were going to play on the total opposite end of the spectrum from whom they were created for. Knowing pictures played a role to stimulate memories, keeping family familiar and can also help calm a family member who becomes disoriented, since unfortunately a member of our own family suffers from Alzheimers & dementia. She is no longer able care for herself without danger of becoming hurt. As a family, we had to make the difficult decision for her to go into a memory care facility where trained staff can ensure quality of life is maintained for as long as possible. They told us to bring plenty of photo's and hang pictures of happy times on her walls. Taking it a step further we also gave her a set of Zatswho® so she could hold us in her hands to help her make meaningful connections with us for as long as possible.

Photographs from the past allow people to reminisce about pleasant times in their lives. Photographs from the present may help people relate to their current situation. The person experiencing memory loss is able to remember or recognize someone they love and know in a world where so many things are now unfamiliar to them.

Zatswho® Soft Photo Recognition Flashcards is an activity that can be used to help preserve memories from the past as you reminisce about the focus of the photo, enriching the present helping to comfort the patient and family members. The flashcards are flexible, easy to hold, brightly colored, wipe clean and come in a tote making them portable. The tote easily hooks onto a wheelchair and be readily available wherever the person may go.
